Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas Launch Safehouse Records

Platinum selling artists Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas have joined forces with friend and manager Phil McIntyre to create their own label Safehouse Records. After the news was released on Tuesday morning, Lovato posted a screenshot on Instagram saying, “So f*ing excited… We did it!”

Aside from releasing Lovato’s upcoming fifth studio album with Island and Hollywood Records, Safehouse Records will also be signing new talent. Sharing her excitement, Lovato said to Billboard, “I’ve worked closely with both Nick and Phil for years and we share the same point of view when it comes to making music…It’s incredibly exciting to be part of this new company where I’m in control of all aspects of my career. I can’t wait to share what we’re working on!”

The three will all act as co-owners of the label, finding and producing artist centric content. According to Jonas and McIntyre, the creative partnership with Island and Hollywood Records means their artists will have “access to the best marketing and promotion available.”

Tipping her fans off about the big news through Instagram last week, Lovato captioned “Big deal pens for big deal contracts… Big news coming very very soon!!!!!” Following on from the announcement, the singer released further details of the personal business venture. Posting photos with President of Island Records David Massey, and Executive Vice President of Republic Records, Charlie Walk, she shared the news.

Placing emphasis on a post with Ken Bunt and Mio Vukovic, she recognized the role they have played in her personal and professional life and credited them with “continually taking care of me as an artist but most importantly a person. Who supports not only my music but sobriety and who were there at my party to celebrate my first year sober.” Finally paying tribute to business partner and manager McIntyre, whom she has known since the age of 15, she said, “He is one of the very few people who LITERALLY saved. my. life.”

Both Disney alumni, Lovato and Jonas met as co-stars on the Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock in 2008. The two have gone on to have successful careers and much of Lovato’s debut album Don’t Forget was co-written and co-produced by Jonas and his brothers. Since the band split in 2013, Nick has had two top 20 singles with the soulful sounds of “Jealous” and “Chains.” Peaking at #6 on the Billboard 200 charts with his self-titled sophomore solo album, Lovato joined him for the duet “Avalanche.” Alternately, Jonas acted as her Musical and Creative Director on the Neon Lights Tour.

Jonas has yet to release any personal comments regarding the news, and will embark on his Live In Concert Tour in September. His new single, “Good Thing” is out now.
