With the post-apocalyptic drama of Divergent and the faith-narrative of The Chronicles of Narnia, book one in Presbyterian pastor Steven Lympus’s The Benjamin Stories is an easy read for teens and adults alike.
Adopted at birth, Benjamin Story is a curious 13-year-old with a passion for ‘remembering’ bedtime stories his father taught him. When he disappears, Ben goes on an adventure filled with mystery and action—not only finding his father, but also his purpose in life.
Biblical imagery is rich through the story; however this is hit-and-miss, as some references (such as character names and numbers) lack depth which leaves the reader hungry for a deeper exploration of key themes and subplots.
That being said, this is the perfect story for anyone wanting to dip their toes into religious imagery and still be taken on a grand adventure.
